Car Commercial – 1 – Pitch
October 17, 2017
Our commercial uses the Tesla and focuses directly on its main functionality, electricity. We want to emphasize the power and elegance of the Tesla. The effects that we have decided on are pretty straight forward, we want to have lightning arcs streaking from the car onto the surrounding environment. These arcs of electricity will knock up debris, source smoke, and interconnect. The next effect is a slight smoke from the tires when the Tesla drifts into the final scene. We have 4 shots that we want to do, which is definitely ambitious, however we have a few work arounds to help out our workload. The first shot is purely for establishing the scene, no car or effects. The second (we have changed our idea from the pitch video) is a low shot from the ground looking down the road as the car speeds by and the camera shakes. The third is a following shot of the car driving along the road. The fourth shot shows the car drift into scene where another Tesla is waiting and will be shocked by the electricity and turn on the waiting car.
All in all the lightning effect has proved to be very interesting and fun to create. I have easy sourcing for the pyro effects if needed (which may only be needed for 1 shot). The lightning bolts are made of 3 procedural layers of noise. My main concern at this point is the connection of the lightning from the car chassis to the ground, right now it is just random so under this system a bolt could be created from the left side of the car to the right ground by the car, effectively clipping the geometry. I am going to try to compare the source points to ground points by the normal of the car geometry, this way the points will only connect if they are within a certain range of the normal to direct its connections into a cone.
I’m very excited to develop this project more and can’t wait to update this project more and more!
